Awakening

October 1999

For in all these lives of being and becoming

A constant of the growing soul abides,

Grace of the formative years when spirit peeps out

From flesh, a lone and Ancient traveller

Newly aware of its own divinity.

Through life's shocks the carapace grows thick

And obdurate revealing only echoes

Faintly heard that well up from within.

Sometimes the celestial chords

Awake a forgotten self,

And a clarion anthem swells

To the charge of destiny.

A neighbor, friend or foe he visits us

Supreme in our self-declared supremacies

Arousing the tardy Self from somnolence,

His summoning touch waking the sleeping soul.

He who in the darkness of our days

Brings light and opens the closed and suffering mind

To newness and the dreams of God in time.
